PMRDA set to release tenders for Hyperloop Project in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved the much-awaited Pune-Mumbai Hyperloop project and are planning to start the operations soon. The Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) which is the main body for developing the Pune Mumbai Hyperloop project will carry out the project.
The project has received a push on Tuesday with the Maharashtra Cabinet approving to appoint a DP World consortium as Original Project Proponent (OPP) for the Hyperloop project. The project will be developed by the DP World Consortium & Virgin Hyperloop jointly.
Project Cost & Timeline
The Hyperloop Project is estimated to complete within 6 to 8 years. By 2026, the service is expected to be used by 130 million passengers annually. The total cost for the project will be around 70,000 crores.
Journey Hours
With the Hyperloop project, it will improve the connectivity of both cities and is expected to cover the 150-km journey from Pune to Mumbai in less than 35 minutes, turning the place into one megacity. The Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) officials said that by the middle of next month they would float tender for the first phase of the Hyperloop project.
The bidder who submits the most enticing bid proposal would win the tender and will be awarded with the Original Project Proponent (OPP) status and then will be responsible for the overall project.
Construction Plan
At the very initial phase of the project, the train is going to be conducted on a pilot basis and covers a distance of 11.4 kilometers from Gahunje to Ozard region. The estimated cost for the first phase of the Hyperloop project is Rs 5,000 crore. In the second phase, the train will connect Wakad with Kurla and will cover a distance of 117.5km track.
As per the latest report by Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA), they are all set to float tenders for the construction work by mid-August. The Maharashtra government will provide the land for this project.
